Training, Education and Dissemination Activities
ED Research Program led by Mr. Philippe Fischer, with the participation of Prof. Nico de Rooij
funny facebook statusesThe Nano-Tera.CH program will gather scientists from different backgrounds ? physics, chemistry, biology, microtechnology, optics, etc ? working on common projects in different fields ? sensors and actuators, signal processing, software, system architecture, application fields. This will lead to a large demand for crossdisciplinary education among the scientists, which will be addressed by the internal workshops program.
In its overall strategic vision, Nano-Tera.CH aims at bettering human conditions and quality of life with systems that target improvement of health, security and environment. These objectives must be widely shared with the population and need to be explained through a dedicated public dissemination program for the citizens, the politicians and the press.
Nano-Tera.CH is focused on the application and integration of micro and nanotechnologies for the creation of innovative products, which industrialization and commercialization will have to be undertaken by Swiss enterprises. There will be a need for professional dissemination activities toward the entrepreneurs in order to identify the early adopters ready to take the risks inherent to innovation.
In order to ensure the success of the industrialization stage, there will be a need for transfer of knowledge form the research institution to the industry. This will be addressed by a large and almost cost covering Nano-Tera.CH continuous education program for industry.
In summary, this proposal encompasses the following activities: funny jokes
1. An internal workshop program for Nano-Tera.CH scientists
2. A dissemination program for a large public
3. A dissemination program for professionals in the field of micro nano
4. A continuous education program for professionals in the field of micro nano
5. Summer schools for academic education
DETAILED PROGRAM AND CONTENT
INTERNAL WORKSHOPS FOR NANO-TERA.CH PARTNERS
Aim: to create a real Nano-Tera.CH community, exchange experience and know-how
Target group: Research groups active in the program
Activities:
- Research meetings to present and discuss the different projects
- Technical workshops given by senior scientists to present the state of the art in specific fields.
Content: The technical workshops will focus mainly on the application systems targeted by Nano-Tera.CH, i.e. Wearable Embedded Systems, Ambient Systems and Remote Systems. For each of the three topics, senior scientists will be selected to present the most relevant enabling technologies.
As an example, one can imagine a Technical workshop on "Wearable Systems" with following topics:
- Sensing and bio-interfaces
- Wireless body area networks using Ultra-Wide-Band (UWB)
- Integration for small-form factor
- Ultra low power systems, included resources-aware embedded software
hilarious quotes
Frequency: In 2008, one Technical workshop can be organized. From 2009 on, we propose to organize each year one Research workshop and one Technical workshop.
Locations: at partners? places
Announced by: e-mail to all project partners
DISSEMINATION PROGRAM FOR A LARGE PUBLIC
Aim:
- to gain public's confidence in the Nano-Tera.CH related technologies and research fields
- to focus on Nano-Tera.CH's vision, i.g. bettering human conditions and life quality,
improving health, security and environment;
- to answer the question: what can the average citizen expect from this program?
Target group: population, politicians, press
Activities:
- public conferences given by Nano-Tera researchers
- articles in non specialized press, advertising, posters
Content: The conferences and press articles will clearly focus on understanding the benefits for the quality of life, with focus on applications of micro and nanotechnologies in healthcare, security and environment funny quotes
Frequency: In 2008, 2 conferences could be organized, one in the French speaking part and one in the German speaking part. 6 conferences could be organized in 2009 and 8 in 2010 and 2011. Once a month in different places.
Locations: widely spread out over the country, in collaboration with existing organisers of public conferences
Announced by: press releases, advertising in newspapers
DISSEMINATION PROGRAM FOR PROFESSIONALS IN THE FIELD OF MICRO/NANO
Aim: encourage integration and application of micro and nanotechnologies for the creation of innovative products
Target group: Managers of Swiss enterprises active in micro/nano and of product manufacturers
Activities: E-Newsletter, conferences given by Nano-Tera.CH researchers
Content: The conferences and newsletters will focus on major advances and breakthrough achieved in the enabling technologies, i.e. micro/nano-electronics, sensors, MEMS, systems architectures, embedded software, information and communication protocols. Industry representatives will be aware whether or not there is an opportunity for them to catch a new technology for a specific application in their own business.
Some typical topics will be:
- Ultra-low power electronics
- Very high speed electronics
- Disposable electronics
- 3-D integration
- Highly sensitive Carbon nanotube sensors
- Chip scale atomic clocks
- High density probe array sensing
- Cell chips
- Miniaturized power sources and energy harvesting
- New software algorithms with self-repair capabilities
- Self-organizing systems
- High performance real time algorithms
- Quantum information processing
- Ultra low signal processing
- Ultra high band communication
- Large-Scale Data Management
- High performance antennas
- ?and many more
Frequency: We propose to start this activity in the second half of 2009, with 4 conferences in different places and continue with 8 conferences per year in 2010 and 2011.
Locations: widely spread out over the country, in collaboration with existing organisers of professional conferences
Announced by: press releases, advertising in specialized publications, e-mail newsletter, presentations at technical conferences, participation in specialized fairs.
CONTINUOUS EDUCATION PROGRAMME FOR PROFESSIONALS
Aim: transfer of knowledge from research to industry, creation of the basis for new, innovative and competitive products
Target group: engineers active in R&D, production and quality management of Swiss companies
Activities: short, application oriented training courses
Content: The same topics as above will be developed in one to two-day courses with a real transfer of know-how to industry engineers willing to integrate the technologies in the design of their products.
Frequency: This activity must be in line with the dissemination conferences for professionals, i.e it will start with 4 courses in 2009. The number of different courses could increase to at least 20 per year in 2011.
Locations: centralized in 2 or 3 easy to access locations
Announced by: direct e-mail announcement, press releases, advertising in specialized publications
SUMMER SCHOOLS FOR ACADEMIC EDUCATION
Aim: Create, in collaboration with universities, condensed summer schools on specific topics in the same way as the Marie Curie project "Highlights in Microtechnology" organized by the IMT, the EPFL, the FEMTO in Besan?on and the FSRM. Collaboration with the project from Prof. Ch. Schoenenberger at University of Basel is foreseen.
Target group: students and researchers at Swiss and foreign universities, especially young researchers from
the Nano-Tera.CH community
Activities: Organize condensed summer schools on specific topics
Content: The summer schools should focus on complex systems, with integration of all aspects, such as
- E-health environment
- Environmental monitoring systems
- Smart home
- Pico-satellites
Frequency: We propose the first summer school in 2010 and a second one in 2011.
Locations: at partners' places
Announced by: advertising in university publications, e-mail, flyers
