The goal of this nano-tera.ch ED project is to set up and organize the Swiss based contest to select the best student team to participate at the international iCAN contest that will be held during Transducers’11 conference in June 2011, Bejing, China.

The national contest in Switzerland will follow a typical scenario also done in other countries (e.g. Germany, Netherlands, USA, and Japan, among others).

First, the event is announced within the Swiss academic systems (EPFL, ETHZ, Universities, HES) inviting students to form teams of 2-3 members. Based on the specification sheets for sensors that are provided by supporting companies, the students propose on paper a new application using the sensor. Simultaneously the students are contacting a coach (Professor, lab director, senior scientist, etc) from one of the Swiss academic partners. The students propose the application and corresponding workplan. Then, the industry provides sensor samples to the teams. The team’s practical work will start in fall 2010.

The Swiss selection will take place with a Jury in early 2011. The Jury will be a mixed group of people, partially professionals, partially general public.

The Swiss Winner Team will be sponsored to travel to Beijing China in June 2010 to participate at the international iCAN contest during Transducers’11 conference.
