Technology innovation is the key to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in the continuum of life from newborns to senior citizens. Technology innovation has the potential to rapidly transform information processing, especially in healthcare, by successfully addressing the key challenges of access, quality and cost of care. In this context, Wireless Body Sensor Networks (WBSN) can enable novel applications in and beyond healthcare. Advances in the fields of pervasive computing and sensor networks have indeed made the dreams of body area networks and smart environments reality, moving them beyond their traditional areas of application in monitoring of remote and mobile environments.
